a few years ago, after receiving a certificate in industrial engineering, 31-year-old rami cohen decided to focus on electrical work and acquire practical expertise. during the course of his studies he discovered electricians have expertise in many fascinating areas, including planning, installation, oversight and maintenance of electrical systems. for the past two months rami has been working as an electrician at tuttnauer, a job he found through the jobnet site.
tuttnauer is among the world’s three largest manufacturers of autoclaves – sterilization devices used in hospitals, laboratories, private clinics, universities, etc. tuttnauer is among israel’s veteran industrial companies and is considered a manufacturer on an international scale.
why did you decide to leave your previous job after a year and a half?
“before i came to tuttnauer i worked as a maintenance man at a food manufacturer, but after a year and a half i decided to start looking for a new job because i wasn’t enjoying my work. i looked for an organized, stable workplace that i’d be able to depend on for years to come and where i’d be happy both professionally and socially.”

which positions did you apply for?
“i sent my resume to personnel companies and through various job-search websites i found through google, applying for positions in electrical work. my main considerations were a place that would provide years of job security, good interpersonal relations and opportunities for professional advancement.”
how did you go about looking for the right job?
“after two weeks of searching and interviews i got hired as an electrician at tuttnauer. before the first interview i researched the company, its areas of operations and its achievements. during the recruitment process the interviewers repeatedly noted the matter of concern for the worker and after i was hired i found it really was true. i’ve also gotten two warm recommendations from acquaintances who work at tuttnauer.”
what drew you to tuttnauer and how would you describe the working environment?
“after two months on the job i’ve found that even now, during this period of recession in the country, the factory owner’s top concern is the employees, and it comes across on a day-to-day basis. i feel that tuttnauer is like a home-away-from-home and i’m very happy at the factory. my colleagues and supervisors come to work in the morning wearing a smile, the work gets done in a professional manner and the atmosphere among the people on the staff is pleasant.”
what is the job of electrician all about?
“these days i’m working on a ‘horizontal wiring’ team made up of four electricians and a manager working in full cooperation. my job is to wire the electricity in the autoclave based on drawings. on one hand i have a lot to contribute to the work process since i have lots of wide-ranging professional know-how. on the other hand from day to day i’m exposed to new issues and feel i’m advancing professionally.”
do you feel you’ve come to the right place?
“the match between me and tuttnauer is definitely the start of a wonderful friendship. from my first day on the job i felt i’d come to a place where i’d be able to grow, learn and gain expertise, and so far i’ve been able to meet the challenges my managers have placed before me. the work relations are excellent and the work gets done in a relaxed atmosphere. also, the company’s area of operations, medical equipment production, is a fascinating field i’m dealing with for the first time.”
what advice do you have for job hunters?
“my advice is not to compromise, but to look for a place that meets your needs, even during this period of recession. it’s really important to come in to work happy and to leave happy at the end of the day.”
