born in kiryat bialik, shay golan, 25, was enrolled in an electronics and computers track in high school, and continued his studies for two years at the ort college in kiryat bialik, the school for practical engineering, earning a diploma in electronic engineering and computers.
while enlisted in the idf, shay was posted at a base in the north where he served as a computer and digital equipment technician. he signed on for an extra year in the army, during which he was in charge of a computer lab and a digital equipment lab. since his discharge one year ago he has already married and he and his wife are expecting!

on the job-search process:
"after my discharge i began looking for work. i looked in various directions related to electronic engineering. i conducted an intensive search on the web and through newspapers and eventually, through jobnet, i came to flextronics."

on getting hired at flextronics:
"the hiring process began at the personnel department and then i went through a whole day of training that included training on various regulations at the factory, training on work and safety guidelines and theoretical training on electronic components. on the second day i arrived at my department, which has 20 people working in it, and i connected to them very quickly. i feel like part of a family."

on the position:
"my job as an electronic and computer engineer is to locate fourth-level faults, i.e. defects at the level of the component itself. i take a component that has not undergone final testing, work on the electrical layout and go step-by-step conducting tests until i locate the defect. after locating the defect i transfer the component for soldering."

on adjusting to the company:
"i'm very pleased. i'm gaining a whole lot of know-how at the factory and a lot of experience. it's interesting here and the atmosphere is good." on the topic of advancement shay says: "like at all large companies here, too, there are opportunities for internal promotion, but i'm just getting started…"

recommendations:
shay tells other job-hunters not to give up. "the situation in the north is improving in terms of job availability and you shouldn't throw in the towel," he says. "when sending resumes via e-mail, don't forget to do follow-up at the companies where you applied. it's important to constantly send resumes and eventually somebody will contact you."
