Miki Shankman found his job at Omnitech through the Jobnet site.
Miki, who is 30 and married, began working at Omnitech in February of this year. After a few months he was promoted to the post head of managed services and Internet.
I came to Omnitech from a startup called DIS, where I worked as a sales and marketing manager for almost three years. Before then I worked as a commercial sales manager at Partner, where I was a small clog in a very large machine. I liked being a part of a large system, but not being a small cog.
At DIS, which had 15 employees at the time, I was a very big cog. I was among the decision-makers and leaders at the company, particularly in regards to the product. I brought the product from zero to a respectable sales volume and that was a personal achievement for me, but at the same time I was looking for a promotion and inside a small company the opportunities are limited. I was already at the top and I was looking toward the next phase in my career development. I was looking for a place that would combine the two things I really loved – on one hand a large system with opportunities for personal development, and on the other hand a place that would allow me the ability to make decisions and be a take-charge kind of guy rather than a little cog. And that's how I arrived at Omnitech.
How did you conduct your job search?
The moment I reached a decision I was looking for work I began to search through all the channels I know – through friends, newspaper ads and the Jobnet site, which I'm familiar with both from personal experience and feedback from people I know who found work through the site. My familiarity with Jobnet goes back many years. I also found my previous job at DIS through Jobnet. I distributed my resume through Jobnet and other places. I came across the Omnitech ad only on Jobnet. I really liked the Omnitech concept and the fact that it was part of the Team-Malam Group. Besides Omnitech I had three other job offers at the same time.

What eventually tipped the scale in favor of Omnitech?
I saw the horizon at Omnitech. I saw Omnitech as a place where I could spend a number of years at a meaningful job that I know how to do well, setting up an area of operations within a large organization. At Omnitech I was offered a job that combines abilities with my knowledge of the software industry and know-how regarding how to set up a new field within a large organization. I saw this as more than just two steps forward, I saw is as a new horizon, and therefore I chose Omnitech.

On the position:
My job at Omnitech is head of managed services and Internet. My areas of responsibility include selling service contracts, responsibility for the hardware Omnitech sells and providing solutions in a wide range of areas – managing databases, information security, managing networks, etc. The flagship of the Department of Managed Service and Software is managed services, i.e. full responsibility for the client's computer department. We make a bid, sign a service level agreement (SLA) and I'm responsible for implementing the agreement. From that moment on I transform from being another supplier to a partner of sorts. My job is to transform IT from a burden to an asset, a source of strength that drives the organization forward. If done right – and I know how to do it right, because that's my profession – I can spare the client a lot of headaches and save the organization a lot of money.
What kind of a company is Omnitech?
Omnitech is one of the homiest companies I've encountered. On one hand it's a large, established company with 300 employees, a company directed toward business results, a company that lives and breathes business; one the other hand the management is warm and pleasant. People smile in the hallways, there's a feeling of togetherness and there's a certain magic that's hard to understand how it was created, but it exists here in a real way. It's one of the things I felt as soon as I joined the firm.
How did you feel during your integration at the company?
The orientation included close guidance by the department manager and the human resources department. They helped me understand the system and the people involved. I integrated very nicely here. I started off as a sales manager for archiving software and within seven months I got a promotion. I was officially named department head just a little while ago.
Would you call your integration at Omnitech a success story?
I feel really lucky to be where I am now because I chose a place that's very good for me to be and I'm advancing professionally. It's a result of both individual ability and timing/luck. I'm really happy here, both personally and professionally.
And in conclusion, do you have suggestions for jobseekers?
If you know what you're looking for you'll find the channels that will advance you toward that goal. If you're looking for work at high-tech companies, you have no reason to look in the newspaper want ads. When you know what you want from yourself and where you want to arrive, choose the tools that will assist you reach that place. The moment I understand this and I understand what I'm looking for, the Jobnet site is a natural course for me, because of its connections to the high-tech industry.
In conclusion, when you know what you're looking for and know how to choose the right channels, you increase your chances of arriving at the place you want to go.
