Success Story - Yechiel Sela, Cellular Technician, Solo Communications

from his childhood years, when he was in charge of operating the electrical devices at home and at school, yechiel sela, 28, dreamed of being an electronics engineer. he worked in security and management, but always aspired to work in communications and hardware. eventually yechiel found his job as a cellular technician at solo communications three months ago through the jobnet site.

yechiel recalls:
"i've always been graced with a highly developed technical sense. i remember as a child i loved to build with legos, to deal with hardware and to run the electrical devices at home. after exhausting military service in the border guard i worked as a security guard and then oversaw other workers, but i quickly realized management and oversight didn't speak to me. i decided to study electronic engineering at a technology school. after completing my study program i was hired at drori electric as a customer service representative. i took a course and received an authorized electrician's certificate. after a year i felt i hadn't realized my technical potential to the fullest."

how did you conduct your job search?
"i sent out my resume through various internet sites. i was looking for cellular companies in particular. friends i had studied electronics with recommended to me solo communications, a longstanding company with a youthful spirit, where i'd be able to give of myself and gain experience as a practical engineer. i was also told that the screening process was involved, and that it was hard to plough your way through and get hired. i sent my resume via jobnet, feeling determined to pass the professional tests and get hired on the basis of my technical background and my exposure to hardware."

how did you wind up at solo communications?
"orit, the company's human resources manager, got back to me after a very short time. she told me in very clear terms about the company and its operations and invited me in for an interview the next day. though i got responses from lots of companies, the contents world at solo – cellular communications – piqued my interest even while i was still studying, and the job matched what i was looking for. after all, i hope to eventually become an electronics engineer.
during the course of the recruitment process i passed two professional interviews. the first one was with the head of the lab team and the second was with the lab manager. a week later i started working as a solo employee and i quickly felt like a part of the lab staff."

human resources manager orit levy talks about the company:
"solo communications is a cellular communications company specializing in providing solutions and subcontracting for large cellular companies in israel in the field of level 1, 2 and 4 cell-phone repairs.
the company was founded in 1998 and developed quickly over the years. today solo has 100 employees, with 60 employees in the lab and the rest of the staff scattered from eilat to nahariya."

orit, describe your cooperation with jobnet.
"jobnet is the only site that provided me a massive recruitment solution in a very short period of time. over the course of just six weeks we carried out a massive recruitment drive of 40(!) quality technicians around the country. i was very satisfied with the quality of the employees recruited, the number of resumes and the ease of operating the ads on your site. of course i intend to continue advertising on your site and warmly recommend it to my colleagues."

operations manager tal barad on the main laboratory at solo:
"the lab here in tel aviv is one of cellcom's main labs for the repair and renewal of cellular end-line equipment and operates 24 hours a day. the advantage of our workers is that they have extensive knowledge, skills and abilities and have more advanced instrumentation than the workers at the service centers.
the lab is divided into three sections. the first section specializes in repairs for delegations and takes care of the cell-phones of all of the company's important business customers, gold customers, vip customers, etc.
our second area of activity is replenishing stocks for cellcom, and the third section is the quality control department, which tests every phone before it gets returned to the customer.
the lab is a world leader in the field of grade 4 repairs."

yechiel, how was your integration, both professionally and socially?
"on my first day i received a warm greeting that immediately took away the lack of confidence typical of the new worker. i was given attention by all of the employees, who showed great interest in me, and made me feel like a part of the place. together with another 12 new technicians and practical engineers i underwent a basic 14-day training course on dozens of models of cell-phones and the various systems we work with.
after another training program as a technical support person at the service center in herzliya i was placed at the main lab as a cellular technician."

how would you describe solo communications in terms of the atmosphere and the people?
"there's a very warm atmosphere here. the guys are very tight and have a youthful spirit despite the wide age range – here 20-year-olds work alongside 40-year-olds. i feel right at home. efforts are made to accommodate me and my needs, and i receive courteous and quick replies to every question. orit gives each of the employees personalized attention and i feel free to turn to her whenever i want. tal is an exceptional manager who knows all 60 lab employees by their first name and his door is always open."

to wrap things up, are you pleased with your job here?
"i feel like i've been given a golden opportunity to gain a wealth of experience in the cellular field at a young and dynamic company. this line in my resume is very impressive in terms of the field of electronics and communications. also, the employees here are not just part of a hierarchy. each of us has significance and therefore the opportunities for promotion are much higher. i aim to move up, to reach the post of managerial technician sometime in the future. there are veteran mentors, team leaders and lots of other positions here. i just have to put in the effort and prove myself."
